How to Make a Cornstarch Pouch

A hand gathers cornstarch-filled cheesecloth to form a pouch, which will be used to lightly dust surfaces and prevent fondant or gum paste from sticking during cake decorating.

We use a cornstarch pouch to lightly dust fondant, gum paste, or the work surface to prevent sticking. A sugar shaker works for this task as well.

Making a Cornstarch Pouch

Scale the cornstarch and cut out the four cheesecloth squares.

On the work surface, layer the four squares on top of each other.

Add the cornstarch to the center. Pull up the corners to the center to make a pouch, then wrap a rubber band around the top of the pouch to secure it.
